Play England is leading the call for local authorities in England to ensure that public playgrounds are open to children during the current Covid restrictions.

Although government guidance says they can remain open, some councils have closed them and an open letter (signed by Playful Planet among others), asks them to think again, saying:

‘Psychologists, academics, paediatricians, play experts, doctors and scientists have highlighted the evidence that play is vital for the health and wellbeing of children – particularly at a time of unprecedented restrictions on children’s daily lives. Children and young people are making sacrifices every day during lockdown and the impact is starting to become apparent with increases in mental and physical health issues’.
