Conference programme highlights range and diversity of play movement
The full programme for Play 2021, the new conference on children, play and space, has been published, highlighting the breadth and depth of the play movement.
The programme includes numerous academics, considering children’s play from a wide range of scientific perspectives and disciplines, as well as practitioners from fields as diverse as playwork, early education and town planning. Play advocacy is strongly represented, with presentations from the national bodies, Play England, Playboard Northern Ireland and Play Scotland, among many others.
More than 50 parallel session presentations have been derived from an extensive call for papers, the selected speakers joining a plenary programme that includes Prof. Helen Dodd, Tim Gill, Natalia Krysiak and Ash Perrin. The keynote address will be by Dr. Kate Cowan from UCL Institute of Education, who will discuss her work during the pandemic with the National Observatory of Children’s Play.
The conference is organised by a partnership of Playful Planet and the University of Birmingham’s Children and Childhood Network, sponsored by OPAL, Outdoor Play and Learning, and supported by the Playwork Foundation.
Following the government delay in lifting Covid restrictions, the conference will be a solely online event.
