For almost six decades, the International Play Association (IPA) has been a leading advocate for the right of all children to play. During that time, IPA has collaborated with countless organizations, countries, municipalities, facilities, etc. globally in the effort to share a clearer and deeper understanding of how to make the world a better place for all children. For example, the organization worked closely with the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child in the development of the General Comment (#17) on article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Throughout its history, IPA has held triennial conferences around the world to advance the understanding of play and all that that entails. Conference delegates always include a dynamic combination of play advocates, educators, practitioners, academics, planners, architects, politicians, municipal technicians, animators, playworkers and others whose breadth of experience and knowledge are readily shared. As a result, these conferences have led to powerful advances on the right to play on behalf of children globally.
In this upcoming year, IPA’s 21st Triennial World Conference will be held in beautiful Jaipur, India on 4-7 November 2020. The timely theme will be Play and Resilience with sub-themes that include Child-Friendly Cities and Communities, Children in Difficult Circumstances, The Support of Adults Who Support Play, and others.
This conference is a wonderful opportunity for those on the front lines of building and designing Child-Friendly Cities to gain a depth of understanding of play that cannot be found anywhere else. It offers an opportunity to share best practices with peers and experts, witness playwork practice first hand and learn about quality provisions and facilities for children with high play value from across the world.
